Christopher D. Shows

Chris Shows is no stranger to adversity.

Through decades of working with clients across southeastern Louisiana and his own personal experience with health struggles, Chris understands the way an injury can upend a life – as well as the resilience necessary to put that life back together.

Chris has always called Baton Rouge home, but for a few years in Alaska during and after his senior year of high school.

Even though he had a brief period away in Alaska during high school, he made several trips back to visit, returning for good after a three month road trip down by motorcycle.. He returned to the Bayou State permanently to attend LSU for both undergraduate and law school. He hadn’t always planned on going to law school, but he was intrigued by the broad scope of the law and inspired by his grandfather’s legal work before him. The complexity and dynamic nature of law suggested law was a career that would always remain challenging.

Immediately after law school, Chris began working in insurance defense of casualty claims. While he enjoyed the special challenges and issues of accident investigation and litigation, he soon realized that he identified much more closely with injured claimants than with large insurance companies.

His experience with these types of cases quickly taught him that many injury clients have had little experience with the legal system. Witnessing their apprehension, along with the many stressors caused by their injury, Chris made a choice. He decided to switch sides and fight on behalf of the people.

That’s why Chris founded Pierce & Shows in 1992: as a firm dedicated to being a guiding light for clients. In the last three decades, Chris and his team have built a prominent practice known for assisting clients with empathy and integrity, helping them to re-position their families and adjust positively to post-accident changes.

The most satisfying part of law, Chris says, is “maneuvering and manipulating” the complicated legal world to help someone in need. Chris finds these challenges as exhilarating as his cross-country motorcycle rides from Alaska back to Louisiana. The intense focus required at trial is the same as the single-minded clarity required to successfully ride at speed over a rough race course.

Chris has faced his own share of challenges in the last three decades, as well. His years of motorcycling have exposed him to the ups and downs of orthopedic surgeries, and a year of treatment at MD Anderson exposed him to an entirely different level of health concern – the kind of threat that changes one’s perspective on the important things in life.

Dealing with the stress of medical uncertainty and the disruption of acute accident-related trauma only furthered Chris’ understanding of his clients’ positions and fueled his passion for helping them get back on their feet.

At the end of the day, Chris is proud of what he’s accomplished – both in his personal life, with his wife and two sons, and in the work that Pierce & Shows has accomplished since 1992.

He’s proud to have been a part of the solution for so many families who have struggled with catastrophic injuries, and is honored to be able to do this work for the Baton Rouge and southeastern Louisiana community.

"I've had an opportunity to work with Pierce and Shows Attorneys. When I first walked in they greeted me with smiles and a friendly family environment. Somehow they made what I thought to be a difficult time in my life one of the most easiest processes. Thank you Pierce and Shows for giving me a second chance."
